Psychedelic pleasures: An affective understanding of the joys of tripping

Frederik Bøhling has a PhD from the Centre for Alcohol and Drug Research (Aarhus University) and currently teaches social science methods and philosphy at CBS. In his PhD he explored the relations between the use of psychoactive substances and the context of use with a focus on different nightlife settings.

Abstract:
“This presentation focuses on the pleasures of using drugs such as LSD and mushrooms and suggests an affect theoretical understanding of psychedelic experiences. Through an analysis of trip reports from an online web forum it will be argued that taking recreational practices of psychedelics seriously is important both because it broadens our understanding of how entheogenic drugs work in different bodies and settings and because it may enable a more productive and harm reductive transmission of knowledge between the scientific and recreational psychedelic communities.”
